Social justice is not a feature of the Italy Center, it is the Italy Center.
The Italy Center’s social justice philosophy is rooted in human to human interaction with communities in Italy and Europe. The Italy Center leverages its relationships with activists, community organizers, and academics allowing students experience and engage with authentic Italian communities.Â

“Visiting San Sabba concentration camp was a very powerful experience. Not only did I learn more about Trieste and its history as a city, but it reminded me of how precious life is and how scary a time it was during World War 2.”Â
Frank Guglielmo, Trieste trip

“The best experience of my life”
Charlotte True, South Sardinia Trip
“Puglia was packed with authentic Italian experiences that will last a lifetime. It felt like an adventure to a new, enchanting world”
Lincoln Stansfield, Puglia trip
What next? Post-Departure!
Some key steps:
- Looking for students but also partners feedback (what do we all bring back?), check on learning outcomes…
- Building up on those outcomes, including challenges (for instance, re-define next year travel to the same destination, scale up on fruitful partnerships…)
Partners Say…

“Seeing young Americans using their leisure time to engage in socially meaningful activities like beach cleaning with the
local migrants and refugees, sharing their commitment to environmental justice, is truly inspirational for people belonging to any generation and nationality. We thank the Italy center for our sustained partnership with Brindisi, Puglia”.
Mariangela, educator, social worker and language teacher

“Being able to come to Bologna and co-celebrate mass with the Jesuits at the Poggeschi Center, as well as meeting students before their trip to Puglia and speak about their engagement with our local community, really brought depth to my relationship with the Italy Center. This is a partnership that has given so much to Caritas, the city of Brindisi, and myself, throughout the year and in so many unimaginable ways”
Don Piero Demita, parish priest and former director of Caritas Brindisi
